The BioSocial Psychology Laboratory combines ASU's missions of research and teaching in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS).  We share space and collaborate extensively with the Emotion, Culture, and Psychophysiology Laboratory (directed by Nicole A. Roberts), also in SBS. SBS is part of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University's West campus.

In the BioSocial Psychology Lab, we study how people regulate their own and each other's emotions and behavior.  For example, we want to know how romantic partners' daily physical affection might influence their daily mood and physical symptom reports.  We are also interested in whether warm social interactions, such as conversation or holding hands, may influence responses to stress.  To address these and other questions, our most recent NIH-funded project included both a two-week daily diary study and a laboratory experiment. 

We approach research with an interdisciplinary perspective, using behavioral observation, subjective reports, and psychophysiological recording in order to measure multiple aspects of the phenomena we study.  Our research is both basic and applied; we hope to contribute to understanding the interface between mind and body in ways that will advance both individual and societal well-being.
